Robert Cormier’s famous novel, I Am the Cheese, is a novel like no other. It follows a boy named Adam Farmer. Adam is taking a long journey on his bike to deliver a package to his father in Rutterburg, Vermont. As he treks, Adam begins to remember forgotten memories that lead to the present. He also remembers being forcefully questioned in psychiatric interviews, leaving him with blank memories and clues that lead to a very dark secret. I Am the Cheese is, in all honesty, a book like no other. The contents of this mysterious books are hard to describe in simple words.
But I will try my hardest. I Am the Cheese mind-blowing, wild, befuddling, engaging, and heartbreaking, all at the same time. Have you ever read The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes? Imagine that, but 100 times more mind boggling. You won’t know whether you like this book or not until you turn the last page.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery, or someone who enjoys a good perplexing yet engrossing story line.
